Alberto Cavalcanti (1954)
This film was digitally restored in 2024 for the Locarno Film Festival by Cinegrell and the Cinemateca Brasileira after winning the first Heritage Online Restoration Contest in August 2023. The original 35mm negatives were already showing signs of decay in the 1980s. To counteract this, a duplicate negative of the image and a new sound negative were created, which served as the basis for this restoration.
In 1986, the sixth reel of the original camera negative was considered lost and was replaced by a duplicate negative of a working copy. This reel contains markings indicating effects that were to be added in the final edit and were retained in this version.
As part of the 4K digitisation, digital masters were created for long-term archiving and access to ensure the quality and preservation of the film for future generations.
